Large component milling

Rigid machines for flat, accurate faces

Our AWEA double-column vertical machining centre has X 2,000, Y 1,200 and Z 760 mm travels. Its bridge construction gives the stiffness needed for heavy cuts across wide plates and for holding flatness over the full length of a part.

The Hurco VMX64Ti XP, with X 1,625, Y 864 and Z 762 mm, takes medium components and batch work: pockets, profiles, drilled and tapped patterns.

Parts larger than a vertical machining centre can take are milled on our horizontal boring mills, which reach X 3,000 mm and handle work up to 10 tonnes.

From drawing to dispatch

  1. DrawingSend the drawing, material, quantity and date. PDF, DXF, DWG, STEP or IGES.
  2. Review and quoteWe check size, weight and features against our machines and reply with a price and lead time.
  3. Set-upHeavy parts are craned in, set and checked against datums before the first cut.
  4. MachiningMachined to the drawing, in as few settings as the part allows.
  5. InspectionChecked against the drawing with manual gauges and the Faro arm, then released for dispatch.

Questions

Milling questions

More answers on the questions page.

How large a plate can you mill?

Our AWEA double-column machine travels X 2,000, Y 1,200 and Z 760 mm. Larger parts are milled on our horizontal boring mills, which reach X 3,000 mm.

Do you take subcontract CNC milling in batches?

Yes. We take one-offs and batches; the Hurco VMX64Ti suits repeat work on medium components.

Can you drill and tap as part of the milling job?

Yes. Drilled and tapped patterns, pockets and profiles are machined in the same setting where possible.
